Fig milk

In her first book of poems, Hadas Shlomo bravely and painfully traces the childhood memories of a mother suffering from manic depression - starting with the mother's fall, the secret the daughter had to keep in the kibbutz, the naked Bat Mitzvah, the orphan, the terrifying visits to the closed ward, and the old man born to the mother and the ongoing depression, which the poet calls "The Black Son".
